When plans change.....

Life serves up many disappointments....even on vacation.  No one sells souvenir beach towels.  No one.  Anywhere.  Some gift shops agree with me that its a great idea.....but don't have them.  In Cody, Wyoming, the cowboy clerk behind the counter said something like this:  "Well, ma'am....we don't have much for beaches in these parts to need a beach towel."  Ooey.

I'll just wait until they go on the  end of summer clearance at WalMart in good ole Iowa and replenish my pool towel stash.

Today, when we left the reunion we had high hopes of going into Seattle for some sight-seeing and exploring.  We got off on the exit that google maps directed us to.....but every road was smaller and tighter and more nerve-wracking to travel on.  The 30 foot RV is not welcome in the city of Seattle.  Our hopes of parking at the zoo and taking a bus or train around the city vanished in the panic and strain of trying to not get in an accident.  I ordered Roger to abort the mission even if we were all disappointed and get back on the interstate.......and on a rare occasion, he agreed.  Seattle.....guess we will wait til next time!

We got to our KOA near Mount St. Helens this afternoon.....only to find they didn't have a pool.  Oh, so disappointing for my kids who were stir-crazy and hot and sick of sitting!  But the KOA does have a jumpy castle they will inflate for kiddos whenever we ask......until the office closes at 7pm.  I guess Ingrid with the pencilled on eye brows needs to go home too and stop managing and greeting guests.....and her new hire, whose name I didn't catch, is on day 4 of the job working here.  I've seen her doing her laundry, smoking cigarettes and drinking a beer......guess what Ingrid doesn't know won't hurt her.

Our oven in the RV isn't very reliable....burned some cinnamon rolls and frozen pizza was soggy already on this trip......so tonight we turned on our little portable electric grill and grilled 3 frozen Jack's pepperoni pizzas for supper.....with a side of mac and cheese cuz why not, really?  Best pizza.....ever.  No kidding.

We discussed starting our day going to Mount St. Helens actual mountain in the morning but the 3 big kids all agreed they didn't want to use up half the day in case it was disappointing....they would rather drive to our next campground and swim and relax......and spend more money shopping in Cali with auntie Lois and uncle Dale in a few days......so that's the plan for now.  We should make it to the other side of Oregon tomorrow, then one more stop in northern cali at a KOA and pull out early saturday morning for a long driving day to get to Fort Bragg, California to hang out with relatives for a few days before driving home.  The RV is holding up well and serving us just fine.......

We learn, in the experiences of life, that even in disappointment we can find grace and adjust our expectations and move on without bitterness or regret.  I'm so proud of Roger and the kids for not being petty and shallow and selfish about our agenda on this trip.  Everyone has the same attitude of trying to experience lots of awesome stuff and not waste time on things that won't matter......and from now on, we may cook all our frozen pizza on the little electric grill outside and remember camping on the mountain in Washington......
