Korean Beef Bowl
Ingredients: 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed, 1/4 cup reduced sodium soy sauce, 2 tsp sesame oil, 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1 tbsp. veg oil, 3 cloves garlic, minced, 1 lb ground beef, 2 green onions, thinly sliced, 1/4 tsp sesame seeds.
Directions: in a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, soy sauce, sesame oil, red pepper flakes and ginger. Heat veg oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add ground beef and cook until browned, about 3-5 minutes, making sure to crumble the beef as it cooks. Drain excess fat. Stir in soy sauce mixture and green onions until well combined, allowing to simmer until heated through, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately, garnished with green onion and sesame seeds, if desired.
Serve with white rice and green salad.
This is one of Isaac's favorites *and also Grace who was here last year but has moved back to South Korea!* He requested it for dinner tonight.
Try new things. Invite people over that come from different places. Experiment with food. Maybe, some of what you try will become a Tuesday staple when no one but family is around for dinner.....and maybe, just maybe, you will be better for it.
We have a few students we are keeping track of at the local college. One is from England and promises to make me a perfect cup of tea. Seriously. Who gets a perfect cup of tea in Iowa? Me. That's Who.
Try the Korean beef bowl....and stay tuned for the perfect cup of tea.....
